Greetings!
I hope you have all had a terrific start to the New Year!
Some of you may have noticed that the St. John’s Chorale is looking a little small these days. Amazingly, our Chorale has lost a total of eight singers in little more than a year. Some of these folks are expected to return in the coming months, but the fact remains that our numbers are down to ten regular singers. This is precisely why now is a wonderful time to join the St. John Chorale! We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:45 and Sunday mornings at 9:45, singing during the 11AM service each Sunday. No prior choral singing experience is necessary - merely a desire to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
I can confidently say that our Chorale is a friendly and welcoming group, and no matter your voice part, we’ll have a spot for you. Plans are in the works for a Chorale Supper and Open House, to take place on a Wednesday evening soon. Watch the bulletin for more information in the next few weeks. We’d love to have you come share supper and fellowship with us and stay to sing and see what we’re all about!
With Lent almost upon us, I hope you will make an effort to join us for our Lenten meals and services Wednesday nights throughout Lent, beginning February 24. This year, we will be using a new setting of the Evening Prayer by Marty Haugen (composer of several hymns in the With One Voice hymnal). The service music is reverent, beautiful, and quite singable, and will be enhanced by the leadership of Chorale members and the flute playing of Chorale member Cait Jacob. The Chorale and I look forward to seeing you there!
In music, Todd
