Christian Education

Teacher, teacher help me understand.

classroom (145K)Education has been the foundation of Christianity and Jesus its first teacher. The Christian education program at St. John's focuses upon helping our parishioners understand the Bible, its meaning, and bringing that knowledge into focus in a contemporary context. A broad range of constantly changing programs are offered to meet the widely varied needs of our parish ranging from traditional Bible study groups to discussion groups on such topics as Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? Coffee fellowship begins at 9:30 and a range of classes are offered each week beginning at 9:45 a.m. in the Parish Hall between the two morning services. Breakfast is offered once a month by one of the church's fellowship groups. Come, visit, and see what we have to offer.

Other Christian education opportunities are also provided at other times and are listed in the monthly calendar. For more information call the church office.

Specialized educational opportunities are also offered during the year.

Vacation Bible School

June 22-26, 2008

Not just for children, St John's Vacation Bible School is a time of intense learning and fellowship one week each summer for the entire family. Classes and experiences are offered for all ages ranging from traditional classes to discussions. A hot dinner is offered for those attending to provide the opportunity to search for a more complete educational experience. Contact the church office to register, or to volunteer to help.

Confirmation Ministry

Classes are held for all 7th and 8th grade students. The Rite of Confirmation is celebrated for second year students on Reformation Sunday. A bi-annual retreat is also a part of this educational experience. Our studies are designed to build a foundation for growth in faith through the study of the Ten Commandments, the Apostles Creed, the Small Catechism, the liturgy, and biblical studies drawn from the Old and New Testaments.

Bible Study &
Prayer Groups

Informal bible study and prayer groups meet at individual homes throughout the year. Currently there are groups meeting on James Island/West Ashley and in Mt. Pleasant. Check the church calendar and call the church office for more information.
