An Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

The spiritual journey of life is more than attending church on Sunday morning and Christian education. Sharing ourselves, our families, and our beliefs through formal and informal interaction is the ultimate expression of who we are and the way we live. St. John's encourages a variety of fellowship programs to promote positive interaction and to give members the support they need in today's world.
Ladies Sewing Society
The women of St John's came together in 1825 to form the "Female Society," organized for the purpose con contributing financial aid to worthy young men in their preparation for the Christian ministry. The society has contributed to the education of more than 100 men and women since its inception. It is estimated that $40,000 was donated in the nineteenth century and more than $25,000 in the past half century. Over the years the Society has contributed to the Synodical Education Fund, to Home and Foreign Missions, to the Seminary for chapel pews, and to Newberry College. In our own church, the Society has given the tiling for the center aisle, the kneeling cushions at the altar rail (now replaced without new needlepoint cushions), new pulpit cushions, the brass lectern, and a window in memory of its founder Miss Catherine L. Bachman.
Lutheran Men
The Lutheran Men's group is a service organization which meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 with a light supper to make plans for worthwhile projects and for fellowship. It is open to all men within the church.
Women of the E.L.C.A.
This group promotes Christian education and other worthy service projects. It is divided into two groups, the Lee-Freyschmidt Circle in the mornings and the Tovey Circle in the evenings so that all women have an opportunity to attend. It meets the second Wednesday of each month (September - May) with a program and refreshments. It is open to all women within the church.
UnAdults
The Unadults are a fellowship and support group to provide a positive spiritual environment and for both married and single adult members within the church. Informal and formal gatherings promoting both Christian Education and fellowship are planned throughout the year for those who chose to join this group.
Fun Adults
The Fun Adults are a fellowship group targeted at members from 40 - 60 years old which meets for dinner usually every other 4th Saturday. Check the church calendar for meeting times, and the church office for locations.
Goldenaires
Targeting the most mature members of the church, this groups meets every first Friday for dinner at a member's home. Like all of the Fellowship groups, while the Goldenaires target members over 60 years - membership is self-selecting!
